Poppies are not easy to photograph I think, because of their strong red color, same as roses... but backlight/shine-through technique seems to be perfect because their petals are so thin that the shine through effect you get is lovely. @Terry... well I just get down on my knees as low as I can, see that the object is between me and the sun, set my camera (Canon) on AV mode, play with focus and voila. You gotta try it yourself, it is really easy. ;-)
